Description

1h 40min of integral Ha exposure of Gum 48d HII region / RCW 80 SNR [1-4] around HD 119796 (Supergiant HR 5171) star, also featuring NGC 5281, 5269 open star clusters - captured remotely using Telescope #3 (ASA-N D = 0.5m f/3.8, FLI ProLine 16803) system of ChileScope on Mar 28, 2023.

Where Gum 48d HII region (which is clearly visible in Ha) ends and RCW 80 SNR (much dimmer structure closer to NGC 5281) begins is well illustrated in Fig. 2 taken out of [2, 3]:




The Gum 48d has a rather interesting feature - a compact dark cloud located close to the central (HD 119796) star:
